I have recently been struggling to get my ASP.net 4.0 sites to stay stable and have googled several things as well as search this forum, but all of the answersdo not seem to fit.
What happens is periodically (30 minutes - 2 hours) my IIS will refuse to display the pages and web services that are using .NET 4.0. Recycling the App Pool specifically for my ASMX web service, and it will restore ALL .net 4 asp.net sites....even if they are using a different app pool. However, this only lasts for another 30 minutes - 2 hours...
Upon browsing Event Logs I can see a message that predominantly stands out, and that is:
Application Log - Source: ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0 - Event ID: 1062
It is not possible to run two different versions of ASP.net in the same IIS process.

System Log - Source: W3SVC - Event ID: 1013
A process serving application pool 'SVC APIs' exceeded time limits during shutdown. the process id was '1796'

Occasionally I also get a 'Dead Lock' event. Because of that I have tried to set up orphaning & dumping for debugging (may have done it wrong) based on this thread:http://forums.iis.net/t/1148458.aspx &http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286350
I made sure the identity running the app pool in question had modify permissions to the directory and file created above... But I see no dump file created when it freezes up.
I have also tried repairing .net framework 4 and restarting...but it doesnt change anything.
Information about my setup:
2 x Server 2003 R2 x64 machines in a general MS load balance cluster
10 x web sites, some have multiple web applications running within them. Most are asp.net 2.0 sites, or general HTML site. a few are .net 4...and those are the ones that break. (they have been running for months)
