Connect & Remote Desktop sites in Server Essentials 2012 R2 RTM

I originally raised this issue in the Server Essentials forum on TechNet - here - but I was advised that the best place to post was in here.

I have a pretty vanilla, new, clean install of Server Essentials 2012 R2 RTM. The initial issue that I had was that the Connect website (used by client computers) would not load. This turned out to be because the web site would not start in IIS - the error was:

"The World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW Service) did not register the URL prefixhttp://*:80/ for site 1. The necessary network binding may already be in use. The site has been disabled. The data field contains the error number."

Looking at the bindings for the site both Port 80 and Port 443 were set to "All Unassigned" IP addresses. Setting them to the actual IP address of the server then allowed me to start the Default Site and allow computers to access the Connect page (and successfully download and install the client connection software).

This worked though it didn't seem to be the right way to get it going.

I then went to configure the Remote Access site using the Anywhere Access wizard. This also failed at the last stage and investigating again, the bindings for the ports had been reset to 'All Unassigned' and once again the Default Web Site would not start.

I'd be very grateful for any pointers as to what I should do to resolve (or what I should have done to avoid the problem in the first place).

Thanks,

Dave
